The R-10B is a part of Klipsch’s Reference line of speakers designed to provide high-quality audio performance at an affordable price. Upon opening the R-10B sound bars (two pieces), you will notice that each has a different construction.

The sound bars have sleeve curves and a unique X-shape for their metallic grill. Its subwoofer, which augments the bass capability of the main speaker, also blends seamlessly with the sound bar. This results in a pleasant instrumentation depth like kick drums and a stand-up bass.

This unit itself is packed with a punch of power. At its control panel, you will see the essential control keys: mute, source, and volume. However, interestingly, Klipsch cut a few corners. For instance, you will not see the power button in the input panel and the majority of the control will be in the small remote control.

Perhaps, its weak point, though, is the midrange. I find the color too bright and the instrumentation sounded a little metallic and tight. Nevertheless, this weak point is easy to forgive if you have to consider the speaker’s treble performance.

Design

In terms of design, it looks like the more affordable version of the SB 120 sound base. You will immediately see its tall profile, which may be an issue as it can potentially block the IR sensor of your TV. To prevent this problem, it is best to mount these soundbars.

While the plastic housing of this sound bar makes it a little light for its price, I like its minimal design approach. The speakers have a touch of macho in them. Meanwhile, the slot port is meticulously designed. There’s also a panel at the back that features the essentials in a sound bar, including a volume dial and a power switch. The backside also houses important inputs, like digital Optical connection and RCA.

It provides great sound instantly. The moment you connect it to compatible devices, like your TV, it will be an instant home theater solution. Is it worth it to try?

This speaker is worth it. The setup was simple and even if you put this in a big room, it produces good audio. If you don’t prefer using the remote, there are manual controls on the back of the sub and the front of the sound system. For its price range, you can’t beat it.

Best Alternative

This is just my personal recommendation, but a good alternative to R10b would be the Sony HT-S350. Both of them are soundbars that have active amplification type, the only difference is that Sony HT-S350 has 2.1 channels while R10B has 5.1.

The advantage of the Sony HT-S350 over R10B is that it has an audio return channel or HDMI ARC support. Without HDMI, you cannot plug the soundbar into the TV’s ARC connection.

However, R10B is compatible with Amazon Music and Spotify, while Sony HT-S350 does not support these features.

What Do People Say About it?

The Klipsch R-10B Bluetooth Soundbar with Subwoofer has above average rating on Amazon.

One Amazon user updated his review after three years and said, “Insane, it’s been 3 years since I bought these speakers and it still sounds like the day I bought it and still looks brand new! Amazing, I haven’t even considered a new soundbar since these have been so amazing.

My next soundbar most likely will be another Klipsch soundbar, once they get Dolby Atmos, that’ll be when I make my move, this is just a great product all around and Klipsch should be proud.”

However, about 8% of the total 100% of customers who purchased this Klipsch soundbar via Amazon gave it one star. One said, “The Klipsch will not output sound unless there’s a continuous stream of sound. Then, there’s a lag in it kicking back in, so you miss a sound. E.g. scroll through Roku, the button clicks don’t pick up at all unless you rapid-fire them to create a continuous stream.”

Ryan Waniata of Digital Trends shared on YouTube that the R-10b “offers some very good audio performance. However, it also lacks a few features that we expect from a [sound] bar. [For instance,] when we’re talking about the premium components, the subwoofer is really the crown jewel of the system.

[For R-10b,] it’s got a very heavy MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) and closed cabinet. It feels really solid… It automatically wirelessly connects to the system…It’s a nice sound and [it] adds a lot of depth.”

Meanwhile, Abt Electronics shared, “This particular model is one of our most popular here at Apt. It comes with a separate wireless subwoofer and it has an 8-inch side-firing speaker… It sounds really good, gives you a lot of nice deep bass and there’s a separate volume on the back so you can control how much bass [response] this is going to output for you.

On a Reddit thread, one user said that he was using these TV speakers for a while but it suddenly stopped working. “My trusty Klipsch soundbar suddenly died on me last night. Was listening to music when it just cut out and started pumping out little thumps from the subwoofer.”

When he was asked if he found a solution, he answered, “Unfortunately did not. Ended up getting a Sonos system.”

In another thread about soundbars, one commented, “I like the Klipsch [R-10b] as it already comes with a sub, but the lack of HDMI connectivity is a very minor annoyance as I cannot control the volume with my Roku remote.”

Final Verdict: Should You Buy It?

The Klipsch R-10B is not really as good as the higher-end sound bars, but it offers excellent audio performance for music and movies. So, if you are willing to spend a little bit more on your home theater system, this compact yet comprehensive speaker would be worth buying.

It is easy to set up, has a unique look, features Dolby Digital decoding and its overall sound quality is above its price range. Its subwoofer is also a different story as it offers deep bass. Plus, its Bluetooth receiver provides aptX support for better-sound music streaming.
